Behavioral Health Services
Criteria for Admission
- Patient must be an adult 18 years or older
- Patient MUST have an Axis 1 (Psychiatric) diagnosis from the DSM IV. In addition must have one or more of the following criteria:
- MUST be a danger to self with a suicide attempt or self-mutilating behaviors and/or suicidal thoughts, may or may not be with a plan, with feelings of hopelessness, helplessness and/or worthlessness. (Documentation MUST support)
- MUST be a danger to others, homicidal ideations with poor impulse control, assaultive behavior and/or destructive behavior to property.
- MUST be gravely disabled, unable to provide shelter, clothing, food, and/or activities or daily living. MUST be due to a psychiatric symptom related to their psychiatric diagnosis.
- The following are examples of psychiatric symptoms severe enough to cause disorganized, bizarre behavior or psychomotor retardation resulting in significant interference with activities of daily living.
- Psychiatric Symptoms: hallucinations, delusions, panic reactions, anxiety, agitation, depression
- Bizarre Behavior: catatonia, mania, incoherence, autism
- Other conditions that MAY be present:
- A recent weight loss/gain refractory to aggressive outpatient therapy.
- Mental disorder refractory to a thoroughly documented effort at aggressive outpatient therapy (e.g. recurrent psychosis not responsive to outpatient treatment, severe depression or failing to respond to outpatient treatment.)
- Toxic effects of therapeutic drugs.
- Introduction of, withdrawal from or change of dose of psychotherapeutic medication(s), in cases in which there is strong reason to believe that potentially serious side effects are likely to occur.
