This one-day Saturday class is not only for first-time parents who need to complete a childbirth class quickly, but great as a refresher course for returning parents. The course covers stages of labor, birth, medical interventions including cesarean birth and medication options, breathing and relaxation techniques, postpartum, and baby care basics. A labor and birth book is supplied with the class and a tour is offered. It is recommended that couples also register for the breastfeeding class. Please bring a sack lunch and 2 pillows to class. It is highly recommended that first-time parents take Childbirth 101 instead as topics in this class will be abbreviated due to the shorter class time.
This class is a one-night series designed to help the expectant mother, or mother currently breastfeeding a baby, prepare for a successful breastfeeding experience. Topics include: the benefits of breastfeeding, proper positioning and latching, when and how to begin, troubleshooting common problems, breast pumps, and milk storage. Taught by certified lactation consultants and lactation educators. A breastfeeding book is included with the course. (If you are taking Childbirth 101, you do not need to register for this course--it is included.)
This is a beginning childbirth class for first-time mothers and support person to help prepare for the strenuous demands of labor and delivery (includes breastfeeding class). Participants will practice relaxation techniques and become physically, mentally, and emotionally prepared for labor. Participants will gain an increased knowledge of the stages of labor, birth, comfort techniques, potential medical interventions including medications, cesarean birth, postpartum care, breastfeeding, baby care basics and making the transition to parenthood. It is recommended to schedule a childbirth class at the beginning of the third trimester to be taken during the 7th or 8th month of pregnancy. Class is a four week session on either Wednesday or Thursday evenings. Please bring 2 pillows to class and wear comfortable clothing.
Early Pregnancy is a 2 night series for women and their partners. It is suggested that it be taken prior to 28 weeks of pregnancy. Learn about early prenatal care, fetal development, nutrition, exercise, discomforts in pregnancy, preterm labor, and introduction to relaxation techniques.
The Maternity Social allows expecting parents the opportunity to discuss any last minute questions/concerns, tour the birthing rooms, and complete hospital pre-registration. An evening filled with valuable information, refreshments, and prizes. Hospital pre-registration begins at 5:30 pm at west campus admissions. Please bring insurance information. Class will begin at 6 pm in the basement auditorium.
This class is designed for boys and girls at least 11 years old, and teaches how to safely care for children they baby-sit. The class includes guest speakers from the police departments and social work services. Course materials include safety, discipline, basic first aid, CPR, pizza lunch and snacks!
