PMC Leadership
In June of 2009, Norman Stephens, Portneuf Medical Center’s (PMC) new CEO, moved to Pocatello from his home in Wasilla. Stephens and his wife, Susan, joined our community and hospital in time to celebrate breaking ground on June 24, 2009.
Formerly the CEO of Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer, Alaska, Stephens has had a long career in health care, including CEO positions in Texas and Indiana.
“Portneuf and Pocatello are a great fit for me and my family,” Stephens says. “Portneuf is a hospital with fantastic assets and exciting potential, and we look forward to living in a small city with lots of opportunity for outdoor activities.”
Stephens describes his leadership philosophy as “down-to-earth and involved.” Having spent most of his life working in hospitals, he is as at home in the clinical areas of the hospital as he is in the boardroom. Stephens focuses daily on ensuring the hospital is safe and that staff and physicians have the tools they need to provide great patient care.
When he discusses the role of hospital leadership, he stresses being accessible and following through on the details.
